This original oil painting features a single stem of pale pink geraniums, painted loosely and directly from life. I painted this piece after noticing a cluster of freshly pruned geraniums on my morning walk through Newtown — simple, overlooked flowers that felt quietly elegant in their restraint.
I’m drawn to botanicals in clear glass vessels and often work with foraged stems gathered on walks near my studio. Painted alla prima, the brushstrokes remain visible and expressive, allowing the colours to stay fresh and immediate. Soft pinks and leafy greens sit against a deep, inky background, creating a sense of stillness and focus.
This is a gentle, contemplative painting — understated, calm, and designed to live easily in a space. It would suit a bedroom, living area, or any interior that benefits from a quiet moment of colour and light.
