Midnight Kalanchoe - original oil painting

Original oil painting on thick-profile canvas

Midnight Kalanchoe is a moody, expressive floral painting that moves between still life and abstraction, with loosely suggested blooms emerging from a dramatic, black ground.

Deep burgundy, dusky pink and rich teal are punctuated by flashes of pale lavender, cream and white. Bold, gestural brushstrokes contrast with delicate marks and drips, creating a composition that feels both spontaneous and carefully balanced.

Painted intuitively, the work allows the floral arrangement to gradually dissolve into abstract shapes, with shifting forms suggesting petals, foliage and fragments of an interior. The dark background heightens the luminosity of the colour, bringing a sense of depth, movement and quiet drama.

A contemporary interpretation of the traditional floral still life, Midnight Kalanchoe makes a striking statement in both modern and classic interiors.

Painted in oil on a thick-profile canvas with no additional framing required.
