This original oil painting is a loose, expressive study of a bright pink begonia, painted plein air at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens — one of my favourite places to work. I was drawn to the vivid pinks against the soft greens, and the way the plant seemed to move and spill across the space.
Painted directly from life, this small work captures the energy and immediacy of the moment. The brushstrokes are confident and playful, allowing the colour to do most of the talking. It’s a joyful, painterly piece that celebrates the simple pleasure of looking closely at a beautiful plant.
